Jamie Devine elected as SCSBA Secretary/Treasurer

Jamie L. Devine, chairman of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners, was elected secretary/treasurer of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual Delegate Assembly held December 7 in Charleston.

The association’s annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 79 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted resolutions to guide the association during the 2020 legislative session.

Devine has been a member of the Richland One school board since 2008 and the SCSBA board since 2012. Devine is the son of Rev. Ronnie Devine, Sr. and the late Fannie Devine. He grew up in Aiken County and attended public schools there. He graduated from Benedict College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

He is currently president/CEO of Community Assistance Provider, a regional not-for-profit acquiring, building and maintain affordable housing. He previously was employed with the Columbia Housing Authority, working his way up from intern to manager.

Devine serves on numerous boards, commissions and civic organizations in addition to the Richland One and SCSBA boards including Senior Resources, Growing Home SE, Indian Waters Council (Boy Scouts of America), Whitney M. Young Committee chairman, Midlands Regional Education Center Advisory Board (RECAB) and the Association of Housing Counseling of North and South Carolina. Devine is a member of the 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia, Inc.; a 2003 graduate of Leadership Columbia, sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce; and a member of the 2007 “20 under 40” class presented by The State newspaper.

His contributions to his community are further expressed through his work with his church, Brookland Baptist Church, and his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi.

He is married to Columbia City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine and they reside in downtown Columbia. They have two daughters and one son.

Others elected to serve a four-year term on the 21-member board of directors as regional directors are:

  • Region 11 Director, Tim Rhodes, Abbeville County School District
  • Region 12 Director, Billy Blackwell, Cherokee County School District (completing one year of a four-year term)
  • Region 15 Director, Lisa Wells, Greenville County Schools
