Support 400+ local nonprofits on May 5 at MidlandsGives.org

Central Carolina Community Foundation to host Midlands Gives day, minimum donation now $10

Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ center for philanthropy, is bringing the region together — online — for its seventh annual Midlands Gives day on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, with a new virtual headquarters and a lower, $10 minimum donation. This year, 408 local nonprofits are participating in the 18-hour, online-only giving challenge on May 5 from 6 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. at www.midlandsgives.org.

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the entire community, including the region’s nonprofits, making this a critical time to support organizations through Midlands Gives.

“Now, more than ever, our community must come together — even though we’re physically apart,” says JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “This is a time of acute need for everyone, including our region’s nonprofits, many of which are trying to find ways to keep their doors open. Our support and donations during this time of crisis are crucial to ensuring their work can continue.”

Nonprofit resources are strained due to a variety of factors related to the spread of the coronavirus, including the cancellation and postponement of fundraising events, a decline in donations from corporations and individuals due to market upheaval, an absence of volunteers, and an increased demand for services.

“Many nonprofit organizations are struggling financially,” notes Turnquist. “Donations made through www.midlandsgives.org will provide much-needed funding to hundreds of local nonprofits during this critical time.”

To ensure the safety of all Midlands Gives participants, the day of giving will take place entirely online. This year’s event will debut a virtual headquarters, allowing staff, nonprofits, and donors to follow social distancing and safety guidelines.

Since its inception in 2014, Midlands Gives has raised $9.3 million for hundreds of local nonprofits, helping to amplify their impact, administer vital public services, and boost the quality of life in the Midlands.

How to Give Online with Midlands Gives

The online giving platform at www.midlandsgives.org features a leaderboard, prize tracker and searchable profiles of more than 400 participating nonprofits. Donors can add multiple organizations to a “shopping cart” with donation sizes of their choice, starting at only $10.

Moving to a $10 minimum donation (from prior years’ minimum of $20) is an effort to reduce the barriers to giving during the COVID-19 crisis, providing more people with the opportunity to support the community.

The platform will again be hosted through CiviCore, which is easy to use from a mobile device or desktop. As always, after a 2.1% credit card fee, and 2.8% technology fee 100% of each contribution goes to the donor’s selected nonprofit. Donors also have the option to cover the credit card and technology fees for their gifts.

In response to COVID-19, the Foundation is covering the customary 2.8% CiviCore technology fee for all donations made through Midlands Gives until the end of April 2020.

Year-Round Midlands Gives Platform Continues through April 20

MidlandsGives.org transformed into a year-round platform in 2019 to amplify and extend the reach of the one-day, online giving challenge, allowing nonprofits to connect with donors throughout the entire year.

The platform includes features such as recurring gifts and Champion Pages. Recurring gifts will allow donors to automatically give to a selected nonprofit monthly, while Champion Pages will be open year-round, allowing donors and nonprofits to fundraise for specific events or projects. Additionally, Giving eCards can be purchased throughout the year and are redeemable for a donation to the recipient’s nonprofit of choice. For more information, visit www.midlandsgives.org.

Early Giving for Midlands Gives Begins April 21

While the year-round platform will be open through Monday, April 20, 2020, starting Tuesday, April 21, donations will count toward Midlands Gives day leaderboard totals. The platform will re-open for regular year-round giving on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
