Columbia Urban League – Young Professionals will provide relief to voters in the 2020 election

November 2, 2020

With support from Shield the Vote in partnership with Verizon, Nephron Pharmaceuticals and Premier Counseling, the Columbia Urban League Young Professionals will offer PPE, snacks and water to assist with the anticipated long lines at voting precincts.

[Columbia, SC] The Columbia Urban League Young Professionals (CULYPSC), will be providing relief to voters in Richland County on Election Day. The group of volunteers will be distributing items such as face shields, hand sanitizer, snacks and water.

Volunteers plan to reach 3,000 individuals at six locations; North Springs #1, North Springs #2, Dent Middle School, Meadow Lake Park, Greenview Park, Lower Richland High School, Lower Richland Fire Station and Eastover Park. Volunteers will be stationed in two-hour increments at the locations from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

“The stakes are extremely high for the 2020 General Election. Providing relief to citizens who are waiting to cast their vote is important to us as young professionals,” said Elána R. Frazier, CULYPSC president, “The issue is that there are efforts to suppress the vote and while individuals wait patiently to exercise their right, our solution is to provide protection and healthy refreshments as reinforcements. In the wake of voter suppression, misinformation and division, this act of service is just one of many mutual aid efforts to help Midlands citizens during these times.”

Voters are encouraged to visit www.scvotes.gov prior to arriving at their polling place to verify their voter registration status, polling location and to review their sample ballot.
