Richland Two school bus driver honored

May 16, 2021

This week South Carolina Senator Mia McLeod introduced a resolution to honor Kenneth Corbin. On May 6, Mr. Corbin was driving a Richland Two school bus transporting students to Forest Lake Elementary NASA Explorer School when an unauthorized individual with a weapon got on the bus. After a short drive, all of the students and Mr. Corbin were able to get off the bus safely.

Mr. Corbin’s calm demeanor helped de-escalate a dangerous situation and exemplified the training he received through a Safe Pupil Training course.

The media is invited to a recognition ceremony for Mr. Corbin on Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2 Conference Center located at 763 Fashion Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29229.) Mr. Corbin will make a brief statement at the conclusion of the ceremony. Please note that this ceremony is not open to the public. Only invited guests and verified media representatives may attend.

Please contact Communications Director Ish Tate at [email protected] or Public Relations Coordinator Carmen Rhone [email protected] if you are interested in attending.

Out of respect for Mr. Corbin’s privacy, we ask media to not contact him directly. He will not do any interviews prior to the event.

Individuals attending the ceremony must wear face masks and adhere to social distancing. The meeting will also be streamed live at http://www.richland2.org/livestream.
