Leaders from Rural Counties in the Upstate to Discuss Challenges Faced Due to Lack of Transit Services

On Tuesday, May 25th, the Upstate Mobility Alliance will host a virtual panel discussion on “Connecting the Dots: How Transportation Helps Create Community Vibrancy” from noon to 1:00 pm. This event is open to the public and will feature Toby Chappell with Greenwood County, Rick Green with Upper Savannah Council of Governments, Frannie Stockwell with Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, and Stephen Taylor with Abbeville County.

Made up of more than 40 public, private, and civic leaders across the ten-county Upstate South Carolina Region, the Upstate Mobility Alliance was created to make the region vibrant and connected, where transportation policy and investments promote innovation, sustainable development, and economic prosperity for all residents and businesses.

“Residents living in the more rural counties of the Upstate region have historically lacked access to affordable and reliable transportation services,” said Rick Green, Government Services Director of Upper Savannah Council of Governments. “We are excited about the progress being made in the last 18 months to bring transit to these communities and look forward to sharing the process during this panel discussion.”

At this virtual event, participants will be able speak directly with area leaders and discuss the many issues communities without transit services experience on a regular basis. They will also have the opportunity to explore long-range plans and discuss how to develop transportation services that enhance overall community vibrancy.
