National Hammock Day celebration set at Visitors Center in Litchfield

July 19, 2021

The Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina’s Hammock Coast will celebrate National Hammock Day with a four-hour event on Thursday, July 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

To be held at the official Visitors Center at 28 Wall St. in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island, the Hammock Day celebration will include registration for free Hammock Coast merchandise, including five newly designed T-shirts, embroidered beach towels, magnets, postcards and more.

An official Pawleys Island rope hammock, valued at nearly $250 and handmade by the artisans at The Original Hammock Shop, will be part of a grand-prize package that will go to one lucky winner.

To enter for a chance to win the hammock and other Hammock Coast-branded merchandise, people only need to swing by the Visitors Center and fill out a registration form. No purchase is required.
Some special food vendors will be at the Visitors Center for the celebration.

Sweet Baby Cakes will bring its mobile cupcake trailer to the center and hand out free cupcakes to the first 100 attendees. Kona Ice will also be on hand, providing shaved ice treats in a variety of flavors that will also be free to the first 100 attendees. Smoothie King will be providing samples during the event, as well.

South Carolina’s Hammock Coast is the official tourism moniker for Georgetown County and draws visitors to the county’s world-famous beaches and historic sites.

This is the third year the Chamber and tourism leaders have hosted a special recognition event on National Hammock Day.

“We are really excited to host an in-person event this year and able to welcome both local residents and our valued visitors to celebrate our namesake day with us,” said Mark A. Stevens, director of tourism development for the Chamber and the Hammock Coast. “We have some never-before-available official Hammock Coast merchandise to showcase. And by the end of the day, someone will win an official Pawleys Island hammock!”

South Carolina’s Hammock Coast was one of the Palmetto State’s top destinations in 2020, buoyed by its large selection of vacation rental condos and homes and wide-open, pristine beaches that served the public well during the pandemic. That success has continued in 2021, with rentals nearing 100 percent for the summer season.

The official Visitors Center is located at 28 Wall St. in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island and located just outside the gate access to the Litchfield By the Sea resort.
