Sistercare welcomes new Executive Director, Ann Kita, M.A

Ann Kita, M.A., has been selected by Sistercare’s Board of Directors to serve as the organization’s Executive Director. Ms. Kita has the experience, education, vision, and dedication to the mission needed to lead the organization and meaningfully support the thousands of domestic violence survivors and their children Sistercare serves each year. Ms. Kita is replacing the former Executive Director of 33 years, Nancy Barton, who is retiring.

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Ms. Kita brings to Sistercare 24 years of experience in nonprofit and social services work. Most recently, she has served as the Director of Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services at the YWCA Greater Flint. Ann has in-depth experience with community collaborations, operational management, program development, financial management, fundraising, and board engagement. She has a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology & Sociology -Criminal Justice.

Ann is looking forward to leading Sistercare and providing hope and healing to domestic violence survivors in the South Carolina Midlands. Ann says, “The clarity of purpose, safeguarding confidentiality, and empowering domestic violence survivors will be maintained as I am honored to lead the staff; an exceptional team at Sistercare.”

Ann’s background, commitment to domestic violence survivors, and leadership skills are essential in propelling Sistercare forward so we can continue serving survivors in meaningful ways.”

Sistercare is a United Way partner agency serving thousands of domestic violence survivors and their children annually in Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield, and Newberry counties. The nonprofit provides emergency shelter, a 24/7 service line, counseling for survivors and their children, legal advocacy, transitional housing, rural services, teen outreach, hospital accompaniment, and community education.
