The Latest Update on Repairs to Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum
September 8, 2021The BUZZ promised to keep you posted on the much-needed repairs to the dilapidated mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens.
Here’s what we’ve learned.
SC Representative Stewart Jones received a letter from StoneMar General Manager, Shaun Daly. In the letter, Daly explains that the current contractor (second one) had some concerns about the inspections conducted by the prior contractor. As a result, a structural engineer was brought in to inspect the mausoleum.
As a result of the inspection, some demolition was required. That work was completed during the week of August 23rd. Another inspection led them to determine that more demolition is necessary. The additional demolition is underway and expected to be completed by September 12th. Once this is complete the structural engineer will inspect again (anticipated to occur on September 13 or 14).
“I wish the repairs to the mausoleum were moving faster,” said Jones. “But our primary concern is having it done properly and making sure that it’s maintained going forward.”
The progress is slow and for the families of those interred in the mausoleum it is painful. But this is progress and Rep. Jones is continuing to follow the situation and we are too.
Stay tuned.
