CCSD announces new head of capital programs
September 10, 2021Charleston County School District (CCSD) welcomed Jasmeen Shaw as the Executive Director of Capital Programs. Shaw joins CCSD from the state’s Office of School Facilities (OSF) where she has served as the office’s Director and delegated Building Official for the South Carolina Department of Education.
Shaw is an advocate for safety with over 13 years of construction experience in the K-12 school and nuclear industry. As the Director and delegated Building Official for OSF, Shaw has managed a $4.1 million operation and granted occupancy to over 400 K-12 new school facilities and projects within the state’s 81 school districts (including charter schools). Shaw has extensive experience interfacing with district superintendents, facilities directors, design professionals, inspectors, fire marshals, community representatives and other stakeholders. During her time with OSF, she witnessed growth having implemented an electronic design plan review software, remote virtual inspection process, and college internship program. She also supervised a team of 36 direct and indirect staff ensuing building code compliance.
Prior to her role with OSF, Shaw managed a $26 billion project as the Nuclear Development Site Lead (NDSL) for Georgia Power within the Regulatory Affairs Department. She was responsible for managing timely construction updates to the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) and other stakeholders in a challenging political climate for the nuclear industry.
“Ms. Shaw is the ideal engineer to lead our $415 million phase V capital program,” said Chief Operating Officer Jeff Borowy. “With her experience as the Director of South Carolina’s Office of School Facilities, where she was responsible for reviewing, approving and inspecting our capital projects, Ms. Shaw is bringing a unique capability and knowledge to our district.”
Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering. She was born in Philadelphia, PA into a military family. Columbia, SC has been her hometown for the past 22 years. Shaw is also a mother and wife who enjoys church, crafts, and spending quality time with her family. She is also passionate about educating youth in science and technology.
