South Carolina Philharmonic celebrates move to Main Street
September 15, 2021Grand opening event to be held in concert with First Thursday October 7, 2021
The South Carolina Philharmonic is celebrating the organization’s recent move to Main Street in Columbia, SC. and will open the space to the public on Thursday, October 7, 2021 in concert with the popular First Thursday on Main. An open house event will begin at 5:00 PM and end at 7:00 PM. Guests will be invited to explore the new offices, marvel at the extensive music library, partake in light food and drink, meet the staff and enjoy live music on the street. Admission is free and masks are required for entry.
The SC Philharmonic administration has had various homes in the past decade, but Executive Director Rhonda Hunsinger wanted to bring the offices to Columbia’s Main Street due to the district’s commitment to showcasing and celebrating the arts. “With the continued growth and vibrancy of Main Street, we are excited to have a presence here and provide easy access to information about our concerts and events.” The SC Phil takes residency downtown with other non-profit arts organizations like The Columbia Museum of Art, The Columbia City Ballet and The Nickelodeon.
The open house also coincides with the orchestra’s opening Masterworks concert week. Early attendees to the open house may get a chance to meet Music Director Morihiko Nakahara before he makes his way to the first rehearsal of the season in preparation for Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony.
