Laurens County Museum Grand Opening Reveals First Class Exhibit Space

January 2, 2022

It’s been a busy few days for the Laurens County Museum with the Gala on New Year’s Eve and then the grand opening of the exhibit space in the newly renovated Witherspoon building.

On Sunday afternoon the Laurens County Museum held an open house and welcomed the public to view the first-class exhibit space. The open house was scheduled from 2:00-5:00 pm and interest was high as a crowd gathered early in the event.

The exhibit space is located on the first floor and includes a media/meeting room.  The second floor of the Witherspoon Building is home to the Magnolia Room, a beautiful event space for weddings, business events and more.

A walk through the exhibit hall is a walk back in time for Laurens County.  There are four themes: Living in Laurens County, Serving in Laurens County, Working in Laurens County and Learning in Laurens County.

On every wall and in every corner, there is a story to be shared. A story of a life in Laurens County. Every item, every picture has a story to tell.

One particular story came alive during the reception as Carolyn Starnes of Watts Mill shared with the Buzz the story of the buggy showcased in the museum.  The buggy was owned by her father, Forrest Benjamin and she remembers riding in it with her family while it was pulled by their horse, Minnie.

Everything in the Laurens County Museum is part of the fabric that shaped Laurens County.  The story is there waiting for you to take the journey.
