January 20, 2022

Turner Padget announced the addition of John Kelchner, of counsel, to the Litigation practice group in Columbia. Kelchner will support the Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy team when clients are faced with bankruptcy by working to create innovative yet practical solutions in complex debt and lending relationships, with a detail-oriented and results-focused process of securing timely resolutions.

Kelchner has experience in handling complex creditors’ rights and real estate finance matters by defending the rights of mortgage companies, banks and other financial institutions in state and federal court. His background is rooted primarily in bankruptcy court, where he advocates for large mortgage servicers, as well as smaller lenders, in consumer and business cases. In his bankruptcy practice, he assists his clients in asserting their claims and defending their interests in adversary proceedings.

Prior to joining Turner Padget, Kelchner served as an associate at Hutchens Law Firm, where he represented mortgage creditors in default servicing while also concentrating in the areas of bankruptcy, litigation, mortgage foreclosure, title curative matters and real estate. Having practiced for 20 years and earned the respect of his peers in the profession, Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him its AV Preeminent rating for the highest level of professional excellence. Kelchner has served as a panelist in various seminars, including those conducted by the South Carolina Bankruptcy Lawyers Association, regarding trends in bankruptcy, mortgage foreclosure and creditors’ rights. He is committed to his community and serves as a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Richland County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bankruptcy Lawyers Association.
