Greenwood County has appointed Jamie Dowtin, an experienced communications and public relations professional, as the county’s new Public Information Officer (PIO).

As the PIO, Dowtin will serve as the liaison between Greenwood County and the media and will be responsible for developing and managing the County’s communication and public relations.

“We understand the importance of communicating and engaging with the residents of Greenwood County and the many other stakeholders who are connected to us. That’s why it was important to create the public information officer position,” Chuck Moates, Greenwood County Council chairman, said. “Having Jamie on our staff will help our County Council and County officials connect and engage more with the communities that we serve and help us to better communicate all of the County’s initiatives and services.”

Dowtin was most recently the director of events and children’s services at Prisma Health Midlands Foundation. Prior to this role, she was the marketing coordinator for Self Regional Healthcare. Dowtin began her career at Prisma Health Midlands Foundation as event coordinator and, later, development director for Prisma Health Cancer Centers.

“We are excited to have Jamie join our economic development team here at Greenwood County,” Toby Chappell, County Manager, said. “She brings with her more than a decade of experience in the communications industry which will serve as a tremendous asset to the County as we continue to enhance our communications, public relations and overall transparency of County operations for our community.”

A 2008 graduate of Clemson University, Dowtin graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She then received a Master of Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
