Dr. Kristen Quinn, Co-Founder and CEO, Heartbeat Technologies
There are over 650,000 cardiac arrest cases in the United States, 90% of which end in fatalities. Of the surviving population, only 9% of them live on without neurologic impairment. CPR is a technique that has not changed much since its inception in the 1960s, and while education initiatives and technological advances have occurred in this space, there has been little change to the standard of care.
The team at Heartbeat Technologies sent out to improve CPR outcomes. Their product, the SAVER is a novel, patent-pending CPR adjunct device that preferentially redirects blood perfusion to key areas of the body. The device can be deployed both in the field and in hospital settings, and will ultimately be found wherever an AED is stored.
Dr. Kristen Quinn received her MD from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and moved to Charleston, SC to pursue her surgical training at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Quinn has a passion for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship and feels a deep responsibility to her patients to rapidly translate medical solutions into clinical care.
