Lawrence promoted to SCSBA General Counsel

Stephanie N. Lawrence, who currently serves as the Director of Policy and Legal Services with the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) has been promoted to General Counsel and Director of Policy and Legal Services.

Lawrence is a 15-year veteran practicing attorney. She joined SCSBA in 2021, bringing a rich background in education law – including K-12, higher education and employee relations issues – to SCSBA’s policy and legal services division. She also has experience in workers’ compensation defense work and, most recently, was on contract as an administrative hearing officer for the State Department of Education. Stephanie’s career journey in public education began as a school guidance counselor at Newberry High School.

On her way to earning her law degree at USC’s School of Law in 2006, Stephanie earned master’s and education specialist degrees in counselor education. Her education law experience includes conducting training in school districts and advising boards on policy matters.
