Five Points Association hosts ribbon cutting for Unis Boutique

August 9, 2022

The Five Points Association, along with the City of Columbia’s Economic Development Office, hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting for Unis Boutique, located at 631-I Harden Street (upstairs above The Baked Bear),  on Monday, August 8th. Unis Boutique is located in the former The Movement Studio location that relocated to Barnwell Street in 2020.

Unis Boutique opened in June and offers affordable, unique clothing and accessories for women in all sizes including plus-sizes. They sell swimwear, workwear, dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry. Sellers hand-selects all of the items and even makes much of the jewelry she sells, which allows patrons to order custom pieces.

“I was excited to hear about Unis Boutique coming to Five Points,” shares Katy Renfroe, Association Manager of the Five Points Association. “Chungu wanted to make a conscious effort to offer less expensive clothing and accessories for women while also being inclusive to women of all sizes. And, she even gives you a free bracelet, when you buy one, so it’s a great deal all the way around!”

Sellers is proud to own the boutique and loves serving as a light to other women when it comes to creating one’s own personal fashion brand. She has a passion for styling women and showing them how clothes can be the small change that is needed to boost their confidence that helps them to do great things.

Unis Boutique is named for Sellers’ mother in Africa. She immigrated to the U.S. and has worked in large cities all over the country in her information technology career. She decided to start a side project in retail once she moved to Columbia, and when she discovered Five Points, she knew that was where she needed to be.

“Five Points is considered to be Columbia’s ‘original village neighborhood’ and carries a charm that is unforgettable,” says Sellers. “The district is also a shopping, restaurant and nightlife area that attracts customers from The University of South Carolina nearby and throughout the Columbia metropolitan area. It is the epicenter for the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and that’s what makes Five Points a perfect location for my business.”
