Reese named Interim Principal at Early College High School

August 29, 2022

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is proud to announce Barrett Reese as the Interim Principal at Early College High School.

Reese began his career as a Social Studies teacher at Charleston County School of the Arts where he taught World History and US History and served as the Social Studies Department Chair for several years. In 2013, he joined the administrative staff at Lowcountry Tech Academy (LTA). While at LTA, Reese oversaw the implementation of innovative courses such as Cybersecurity and Digital Graphics.

In the same spirit of innovation, Reese became the Assistant Principal of Simmons-Pinckney Middle School in 2016. In the role, he helped oversee the school’s transition to project-based learning. Reese worked directly with the 7th grade and 8th grade teams to create learner-centered classrooms and ensure instruction was college and career-focused.

In 2019, Reese joined the Early College High School team as an Assistant Principal. There, he collaboratively worked to ensure equitable access to dual credit courses resulting in students earning dual credits each year. As the MTSS coordinator, Reese led a structure of school-based “houses” designed to provide targeted support to all students; he has also been responsible for student testing, teacher evaluations, and facility operations.

About his appointment as Interim Principal, Superintendent Donald Kennedy said, “Mr. Reese’s leadership has proven most effective during his tenure with CCSD. As a result of his strong relationships with students, families, and community members, he is a trusted and well-respected leader. His transition into the principalship is a natural progression and is extremely exciting for all stakeholders. I am confident his leadership will contribute positively to continued success for ECHS students and families.”

Reese holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts in Teaching from The Citadel. He is a seventeen-year veteran of CCSD.
