Truman + Teddy opens, bringing fresh designs to pet beds

Upstate native David Prince has opened Truman + Teddy, an online store selling handcrafted, elevated beds for dogs and cats. Featuring collections of stylish performance fabrics suitable for indoors and outdoors, Truman + Teddy pet beds offer a fresh, modern design that is resistant to water, dirt, mildew, mold, odor, and fading. Each bed holds up to 200 pounds, lasts for years, and is so light that it can easily travel from place to place.
“We have had a lot of positive feedback so far,” Prince said. “So many of us pet owners settle for lumpy, frumpy beds that are difficult to clean and end up becoming an eyesore in our homes. Our design remedies all of that. Until now, no one really considered that their dog’s or cat’s bed could actually be attractive, complement their own style or their pet’s personality, and keep its value over time.”
Truman + Teddy offers more than 35 different fabrics in four collections (Classic, Holiday, Seasonal/Limited Quantity, and Signature Series) that customers can choose. Beds come in small and large sizes and can be personalized with their embroidery service for an additional charge. Prices begin at $59.99, and for locally based customers, a pick-up option is available to bypass shipping fees. Beds can be shipped anywhere in the United States. Prince conceived Truman + Teddy during the COVID-19 lockdown in the Spring of 2020 when he constructed a ballet barre for his daughter so that she could attend virtual dance classes. Tinkering led to an initial concept for the pet bed, which Prince made for fun for his own dogs and cat and the pets of family members and friends.
Formerly the Chief Operations Officer for his wife Jamie’s local marketing firm and partner in his family’s Upstate-based educational resource company, David Prince holds a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business. He was born and raised in Anderson, S.C., where Truman + Teddy’s workshop is based, and comes from a multi-generational line of entrepreneurs and dog lovers. He lives in Greenville, S.C., with his wife, three children, four dogs, and one cat. Prince is an active member and foster parent in Southeast GSP Rescue. He also serves as an Assistant Scout Master in Troop 9 of the Boy Scouts as well as Shooting Sports Director for the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
