Peak Drift Brewing Company, South Carolina’s newest award-winning craft beverage company, celebrated the opening of its state-of-the-art production facility on North Main Street in Columbia, S.C. at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
“We’re excited to officially celebrate the opening of our new production facility and have distinguished guests and local community members join us at our ribbon cutting,” says Sara Middleton Styles, co-owner of Peak Drift. “Our vision is to create an innovative, environmentally conscious company that promotes life’s peak moments and helps move our region forward.”
Event speakers included Peak Drift’s leadership team, South Carolina’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Murrell Smith, Jr., Richland County Councilman Paul Livingston, City of Columbia Councilwoman Aditi Bussells and President and CEO of the Columbia Chamber Carl Blackstone.
“As long as I’m in the House, I’m going to partner with businesses like Peak Drift to make sure that breweries continue to thrive across our state because they provide entertainment and enhance the quality of life, both of which are important to South Carolina,” says Speaker of the House Murrell Smith, Jr. “I know Peak Drift is going to be a centerpiece of the North Main area, and I am proud to be part of it.”
Peak Drift’s new 25,000-square-foot production facility represents phase one of the company’s future 65,000-square-foot brewery complex, which is set to open in 2023. In addition to the 20-hectoliter brewhouse, Peak Drift is transforming the former Stone Manufacturing Company facility — which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places — into a one-of-a-kind complex with indoor and outdoor dining, lounge areas, a full bar, games, entertainment and more.
“This production facility, along with the anticipated brewery and entertainment complex grand opening later this year, will lead to more jobs and offer a new avenue for connecting communities within Richland County and beyond,” says Councilman Paul Livingston. “My colleagues and I are committed to exploring all opportunities for collaboration to engage with prospective businesses. By working together, we have a great opportunity to recruit businesses like Peak Draft and other establishments — from restaurants to shops and other small- and large -scale businesses, to create jobs and add to the vitality of Richland County.”
Peak Drift’s goal is to become a focal part of the North Main corridor, Columbia and the entire state of South Carolina. The brewery will attract locals and tourists alike and will positively impact the local economy and the craft beverage industry as a whole.
“We are excited about this new business venture in our city,” says City Councilwoman Aditi Bussells. “This significant project is one step closer toward Columbia becoming a real destination to live, work and play. Columbia is fortunate to have local entrepreneurs who have such vision and are willing to make investments in our capital city. The opening of the Peak Drift Brewing Company marks a bold step toward elevating the business landscape and energizing our local economy.”
From production to packaging, Peak Drift is committed to using innovative approaches and environmentally conscious equipment, including in-house fruit processing equipment for better sours and hard ciders, an onsite lab for testing all products to ensure optimal quality, Surface Tension Technology that allows the production of alkaline water and natural cleaning solution to cut down on chemical use and more.
Peak Drift products are now available in select restaurants, bars and stores throughout the Midlands, and at Smoked, which houses Peak Drift’s microbrewery. Peak Drift will continue to expand its products into additional markets this year and beyond.
