Hartness wins prestigious award for single-family community from the National Association of Home Builders

February 6, 2023

Hartness, the urban village founded by the Hartness family and designed by renowned urbanist, master planner, and designer Lew Oliver, has won a gold award for a single-family community, 100 units and over in the 2022 Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

“We are thrilled to receive this award, which emphasizes the success of our team in creating a vibrant urban village that redefines design excellence for homes and communities,” said Sean Hartness, CEO of Hartness Development. “Our collaborative efforts with Hartness Town Planner Lew Oliver have been essential in executing the vision of a customer-focused community that features a variety of housing types alongside streets, parks and pedestrian systems and we celebrate this distinguished recognition with Lew and his team,” adds Hartness.

More than a collection of uniquely beautiful homes, Hartness is a quaint pedestrian-friendly community embracing authentic architecture, natural and built amenities, land preservation, and a mixed-use village center. Hartness adheres to the planning principles of New Urbanism. Every aspect of the community design is focused on creating and connecting the private and public realms with scenic, inviting streetscapes and pedestrian corridors that reward the act of walking. The judges praised Hartness for its green spaces, including stunning central courtyard spaces, and abundance of amenities such as the Grand Lawn and Sports Garden.

Now in its 39th year, BALA recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, multifamily, affordable, remodeling, community, and interiors. BALA is built on the principle that all great homes start with great design and winning projects showcase what building industry professionals need to know to set their product apart and hit the right mark with today’s highly educated and discerning home buyers. Judging criteria for best community includes exterior design and curb appeal, community infrastructure and landscaping, respects local character, effective and efficient land use, site plan creativity, and amenities.
