Over 600 leaders from across South Carolina will convene to tackle critical issues and hear from Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s CEO.

Together SC, the state’s “chamber of commerce” for nonprofit organizations, will host SC’s 24th annual gathering of nonprofit, philanthropic and community leaders March 7 through 9 in Columbia.. This year’s program includes a focus on the transformational investments needed in our state, especially in the areas of workforce development and support.

The 2023 Nonprofit Summit+ has been crafted to provide opportunities for “game changing” conversations that will help leaders move beyond their silos and explore ways to work together.

600 plus leaders will hear from President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Tom Barkin. His engagement in Fed’s Fifth District, which covers South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia, West Virginia and Maryland, has brought real attention to the region’s economic challenges and how these challenges should inform the Reserve’s economic and monetary policies.

Barkin has been invited to share his insights on the challenges and opportunities South Carolina faces in light of the current economic environment. He will also explore ways of working statewide to incorporate rural regions and small towns.

His thoughts on broadening our economic development strategies are sure to resonate,” said Madeleine McGee, president of Together SC. “Whether its workforce development, child care, conservation of our natural environment, or a myriad of other issues, collaborative opportunities for making transformational investments in our state abound. “What better place to explore “Transforming South Carolina” than here at our state’s annual Nonprofit Summit with so many nonprofit, philanthropic, corporate and governmental colleagues coming together,” continued McGee.

“We may look at things differently. Some of us focus on ‘job creation,’ ‘full employment,’ ‘workforce development’ or ‘wrap around services.’ Others are deep into meeting ‘critical human needs,’ ‘improving quality of life’ or ‘advancing equity.’ Yet, aren’t we all focused on transforming South Carolina?” asked Paige Stephenson, Board Chair for Together SC and President & CEO of United Way of the Piedmont.

The 2023 Governor’s Volunteer Awards will be presented that evening, March 8th, at the Allies For Good Legislative Reception where District 23 Senator Katrina Frye Shealy from Lexington County and District 24 Representative Bruce Wyche Bannister, Chair of House Ways and Means Committee, from Greenville County will give remarks.
