River’s Edge Retreat’s Project Cabin Revival is paving the way for lasting summer camp memories

June 12, 2023

River’s Edge Retreat, a cherished local camp known for its game changing swimming and sports camp experiences for underserved youth, has launched Project Cabin Revival. This initiative aims to create a more welcoming and inspiring environment for its 100+ annual campers by rejuvenating over 1,300 square feet of cabin space at its location near the Saluda River.

Project Cabin Revival will encompass a comprehensive renovation of the camp’s seven onsite cabins, focusing on enhancing their functionality, aesthetics, and overall appeal. Each cabin will undergo a transformation to provide a comfortable and engaging space where campers can create lasting summer memories.

“Our project began with a thorough needs assessment to boost the organization’s effectiveness,” shared Lisa Cole, nonprofit consultant and project lead. “Lack of dedicated indoor space for growth was obvious. These cute cabins which had fallen into disrepair were being used for donation storage will now be accessible to all campers.”

All seven cabins will be cleaned, renovated, and themed to create a visually captivating and enjoyable environment for campers. Pressure washing, deck building, interior and exterior repainting, furniture refurbishment, and thoughtful aesthetic touches will enhance the overall ambiance. Each cabin will be themed on seven fun categories – literacy, theater, art, science, health, career, and culture.

“We are thrilled to start this journey,” said Crystal Baker, executive director of River’s Edge Retreat. “Our goal is to create a place where campers can truly thrive, feel at home, and build lifelong memories. We appreciate the support and enthusiasm from our community as we make this vision a reality.”

Through Project Cabin Revival, River’s Edge Retreat aims to elevate the camp experience for its young participants. The renovated cabins will provide a renewed sense of comfort, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of belonging for all campers.

Completion is expected by this fall. River’s Edge Retreat and its founder Steve Ware invites community members to contribute to the camp’s commitment to providing exceptional experiences.
