Camp WaBak celebrates 75 years

July 10, 2023

Hundreds of Girl Scouts, adult members, and friends who love Camp WaBak came out to celebrate the resident camp’s 75th anniversary on Saturday, July 8.  Camp WaBak is in Marietta, SC near the South Carolina/North Carolina border and is part of the Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands (GSSC-MM) council. The 135-acre camp was established in May of 1948 and opened for summer camp in 1949. At Camp WaBak, GSSC-MM offers resident camp with unique outdoor experiences for all girls.

The stables and riding corrals are located on the banks of Gap Creek.  There are several different housing units and buildings for art and community gatherings, an archery range, and a lot of canoes for boating.  Past the archery range is a trail that leads to the top of a 2,000-foot mountain.

The crowds celebrating the milestone spent time enjoying historical displays archery, canoeing, camp tours, arts and crafts, geocaching, and fellowship time.

Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
