Rotary Club of Forest Acres celebrates club leadership with awards, donations, and the installation of new club officers

July 13, 2023

The Rotary Club of Forest Acres celebrated club leadership with awards, donations, and the installation of new club officers at their Blue & Gold Awards banquet on Wednesday, June 30 at St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Columbia.

Travis P. Taylor, Club President

Travis P. Taylor, a realtor with The ART of Real Estate in Forest Acres, was installed as the 2023-2024 club president.

In casting his vision for the Rotary year, which began July 1, Taylor recalled seeing the Rotary wheel logo sign outside of his local YMCA as a kid in a small town in South Carolina. “I wasn’t aware of who any of the members were, and I don’t remember anything that they did in the community other than sponsoring a little league baseball team only because their name was on the back of a team’s jersey,” said Taylor. Building on Rotary’s “Create Hope in the World” theme for the year, Taylor invited fellow Rotarians and guests to be people of action, creators of opportunities, relationships, friendships, good, and change. “To meet the call this year, we must act; and we must show up,” said Taylor.

Dr. Regina H. Moore, Immediate Past President

Taylor’s leadership succeeds the club’s 2022-2023 leader, Regina H. Moore, who led the charge to expand the organization’s membership growth and community impact in the last 12 months. Under her leadership, the club experienced a growth spurt with the induction of 15 new members, successful monthly community service projects, an unprecedented increase in donations to The Rotary Foundation—the philanthropic arm of Rotary—as a 4-Star Club, and the distinction of being named Club of the Year | Medium Size by Rotary District 7770.

Moore spoke of Taylor’s leadership. “And, to our incoming president, get ready for a beautiful ride. Leadership in this club is good heart work. You have the heart to lead us.”

Before taking her seat, Moore honored several Rotary Club members with special recognitions for their service:

  • Carl R. McIntosh – Paul Harris Exemplary Leader Award
  • Barbara Luksik – Jennifer Jones Leadership Award
  • Lee Chambers – Visionary Service Award
  • Amy Cain – Sylvia Whitlock Service Award
  • Marlean Dozier-Smith – Discover Rotary New Member Award
  • Veronica Clark-Holland, Sandy Olson, Jennifer Tibbitts Shook, and Elisabeth Larson Phillips – Imagine Rotary (Group) Award to the Membership Team
