Quinton Lee Rounds Out Football Assistant Coaches’ Hiring List
July 18, 2023Steve Englehart, head coach of the Presbyterian College football program approaching year two this fall, has officially announced the last of his offseason assistant hires. On Thursday afternoon, it was decreed that Quinton Lee will run the Blue Hose inside linebackers’ unit, a former hybrid back at Hampton University and recent analytics advisor for the National Football League.
“We’re very excited to have Quinton on our staff as a defensive assistant”, proclaimed Englehart. “He has great knowledge of technology and data analytics that will bring an additional edge to our program. Quinton is a great man and I have no doubt that he’ll be an excellent mentor for our players”.
Responsible for a key component of the PC defense, Lee commented “I am very excited to be joining Coach Englehart’s staff and can’t wait to be a part of the Blue Hose community. The future is bright for this program, and I’m very much looking forward to working with a great group of coaches and student-athletes”.
A member of the Big Data Bowl Mentorship Program offered by the NFL, Lee’s background in the big leagues through the 2022 season entailed player-tracking data to be used for offensive and defensive line coaches around the organization.
Lee crafted visual breakdowns that emphasized football tracking and performance data through the use of advanced statistical techniques, working extensively with the Super Bowl LVII runner-up Philadelphia Eagles to complete a Big Data Bowl submission.
Prior to offering assistance for the NFL’s analytical department, Lee spent the entirety of the ’21 campaign with William & Mary as an offensive analyst and quality control coach. That year, the Tribe picked up a four-game winning streak early in the schedule and clinched their first winning season in six years by upsetting fourth-ranked Villanova on the road in October, 31-18.
Breaking down film on a weekly basis while creating a self scouting report after every game that dissected trends in W&M’s offensive play-calling, Lee’s time in Williamsburg included considerable effort with the team’s running back and special teams crews.
After graduating from Hampton – where he became a student assistant immediately after – Lee accepted a Strength & Conditioning role at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. during the spring of ’21. This came after a three-year starting role for the Pirates as a student-athlete, earning a Team Captain bid as a senior in 2018.
With Lee’s work in the backfield, Hampton achieved a 7-3 record during his final stint with the program (their highest win count over the previous seven seasons). The Pirates tasted a W in each of their last six appearances to close Lee’s collegiate career, winning those bouts by an average margin of 23 points per contest.
Quinton received the Big South Conference Presidential Award in 2019 before completing his studies at Hampton later that spring, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.
