Laurens County Library Announces August Program Offerings

July 26, 2023

Dog Days of Summer got you down? Enjoy a month of exciting programs at the Laurens County Libraries.

We start off with Beginning Vegetable Garden with Master Gardener Jim Reynolds. All ages are welcome to come and learn the basics of starting a yummy garden. Seed packets will get you going. This program will be held at the Laurens Library August 8 from 5:30 to 7 pm. It will be repeated at the Clinton Branch on August 29, 5 to 6 pm.

Teens, ages 11-17, will participate in a combined video and food event on August 10 when we present Kawaii Cuisine. Taste test cute Asian treats and watch anime. This month we will be trying onigiri and boba tea as we watch One Piece (TV-14). This program is at the Laurens Library at 4pm.

For kids 6-10, the Laurens Library will be holding an Adopt A New Pet Rock event. Get creative and design a little critter! Each participant will receive a carrying case, adoption certificate, and care guide to go with their new buddy.

August 15th dawns with two special programs:

Beginning at 11am, Craftin’ in Clinton (formerly Knit-Stitch-Crochet) is an hour of sharing our current handicraft projects or learning new ones. Decorative mushrooms made from felt will be the focus of this month. All ages, all skill levels welcome.

Then at 6pm Law Talk will begin at the Laurens Library. This is a chance to hear a volunteer lawyer speak on Wills, Estates, and Probate. A Q&A will follow.

We continue the popular teens’ program (ages 11-17) Stay and Play at the Laurens Library. Stop in at 4pm, August 17, for an afternoon of board, video, and card games with Miss Jordan.

Also, for teens, Anima Day for August will be on the 24th at 4pm. This month we watch Luffy chase his dream of becoming the King of Pirates in season one of One Piece (TV-14). Parents are encouraged to research this show prior to the program.

The Mario Kart Tournament will be held August 28, 4pm, at the Laurens Library. Ages 6-10 can show off their racing skills in this fast-paced game.

We end the month on a high note with the monthly meeting of the Clinton Book Club. (ages 18+) The August selection is The White Lady by Jacqueline Winspear. Suggestion for future titles are welcome.

All programs are free and open to the public.

We look forward to seeing you!
