During the City of Clinton’s Council Meeting on July 17, a heartwarming act of generosity and community service took center stage as Chief Sonny Ledda was honored with the prestigious Hometown Hero Award by The Modern Woodmen of America. This award recognizes exceptional individuals who go above and beyond to serve their community selflessly. Chief Ledda’s unwavering dedication and commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Clinton made him a well-deserved recipient of this accolade.

Then, in a display of his generous nature, Chief Ledda decided to further his commitment to the community by donating the financial award that accompanied the Hometown Hero Award to the Deputy Roger Rice Ride-On Fund. This fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, actively supports first responders and their families during times of need. The fund provides crucial assistance in various situations, such as medical emergencies, emergency travel expenses, coping with a death in the family, displacement due to fire, or any unforeseen circumstance that might arise.

The Deputy Roger Rice Ride-On Fund has been an invaluable source of support for first responders and their families since its establishment in 2012. It operates solely on the dedication of its volunteers, ensuring that every donation received goes directly into the fund to help those in need. The fund relies on fundraising efforts throughout the year, including events like the Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride, which honors all fallen officers, and the generous contributions from individuals and organizations in the community.

By choosing to direct his award to the Deputy Roger Rice Ride-On Fund, Chief Ledda has demonstrated not only his commitment to the community but also his understanding of the challenges faced by first responders and their families.

“The City of Clinton is fortunate to have a leader like Chief Ledda, whose dedication to serving the community goes beyond the call of duty,” said Clinton Mayor Randy Randall. “His selfless act of donating the financial award to the Deputy Roger Rice Ride-On Fund exemplifies a true spirit of compassion.”
