Burns family of dealerships celebrates 100 years of business

September 11, 2023

GAFFNEY, SC – The Burns family celebrated an important milestone on Saturday, September 9, 2023 as they hosted their 100 Year Anniversary Celebration at Burns Chevrolet of Gaffney. This community event honored the century of service the Burns family has provided to the Upstate of South Carolina and the support they have received from their customers over the years.

In 1923, the first Burns dealership was opened by C.W. Burns in Pageland, South Carolina. 100 years later, the family business spans four generations and six new and used dealerships from Spartanburg to Lugoff. Burns Chevrolet of Gaffney, located at exit 92 on I-85, is operated by the great-grandson of C.W. Burns, Charlie Burns. A graduate of Gaffney High School and the University of South Carolina, Charlie returned to the Upstate in 2017 to follow in the footsteps of the generations before him to lead the Chevrolet dealership.

The 100 Year Anniversary Celebration brought together generations of customers, employees, and partners who have contributed to the businesses’ success over the years. The festivities included:

  • A Corvette Exhibition from Ridge Runner Corvettes, featuring a stunning display of Corvettes from every generation from 1953 to 2023.
  • A variety of local food and drink vendors, including Zakary’s Coffee Shop, Delicias Verito, Brett’s Bakery and Cafe, and Kona Ice.
Inflatable bouncy houses and obstacle courses provided by Mad Hatter Amusements.

The highlight of the event was the check presentation to Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, which was a culmination of the dealership’s 100 Days of Giving. To commemorate the family’s 100 year business anniversary, Burns Chevrolet donated a portion of all new and used vehicle sales from June 1 – September 9 to Meals on Wheels, resulting in a total donation of $10,747.

Terry Dennis, Executive Director of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, received the donation alongside Meals on Wheels staff member Megan Dennis and Board member Carlton Bridgers.

During the presentation, Charlie expressed his gratitude to the community and everyone who contributed to the family’s 100 years of success. Charlie said, “We have been blessed because of the support of the community and our team members over the past 100 years. We were honored to give back to Meals on Wheels as a way to say thank you to the community that has done so much for us.”

As the Burns family embarks on their next 100 years in business, they remain dedicated to upholding their reputation as a trusted and charitable partner for the community.
