Crossfit864 Hosts Fundraiser to Support Car Accident Victim Brian Milam
October 1, 2023On Saturday, September 30, CrossFit864 in Clinton organized a successful fundraiser named “A Mile for Milam” to support Mr. Brian Milam, who was severely injured in a car accident last December. The event aimed to raise funds to assist Milam in his recovery journey.
The event followed the familiar CrossFit864 fundraiser format, incorporating a challenging workout routine for the participants. The workout involved completing four rounds of a 400-meter run, along with 25 back squats and 25 burpees. This physically demanding challenge symbolized the resilience and determination demonstrated by Brian Milam throughout his recovery.
Milam, who exhibits a fighter’s spirit, is truly a source of inspiration for the community. He suffered a head-on collision on December 29, 2022, near his workplace, leading to his airlift to a hospital. It’s only recently that he has regained the ability to walk without assistance.
The accident drastically altered Mr. Milam’s life, a stark reminder of how one moment on the road can shape someone’s fate forever. It underscores the critical importance of safe driving practices and responsibility behind the wheel.
Trooper Bolt, who attended the fundraiser, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the dangers of distracted driving. He highlighted the need for vigilance and responsible driving habits to ensure the safety of all individuals on the road.
Reflecting on the incident, Jay Long, former Trooper himself and Co-owner of CrossFit864, agreed with Trooper Bolt “Things like this make me wonder what the other driver was doing to cross over the center line? The driver was obviously distracted enough to leave the roadway and cross into the oncoming lane striking Mr. Milam head on. This crash changed Mr. Milam’s life forever, and he had no say in the matter.”
The community came together in support of Brian Milam’s recovery, collectively raising $2,400 during the event. These funds will go a long way in aiding his ongoing rehabilitation and medical expenses.
The generosity and unity displayed during “A Mile for Milam” are a reflection of the strength and compassion within the community.
