Billionaire Sheila Johnson to speak at Women for Women Summit in Charleston

October 5, 2023

Salamander Hotels & Resorts founder and CEO, Sheila Johnson, will be a keynote speaker at the Women for Women Summit in Charleston on Thursday, October 5th. The daylong event, hosted by the College of Charleston School of Business at the Francis Marion Hotel, will focus on the theme of “champion.”

Johnson, who recently released her memoir, “Walk Through Fire: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Triumph,” will interrupt her book tour to attend the summit. With strong ties to Charleston, serving on the national advisory board for the International African American Museum and previously owning the Woodlands Inn in Summerville, Johnson’s Middleburg, VA-based firm also manages the Hotel Bennett, which is conveniently located near the summit venue.

The Women for Women Summit will also recognize Charleston resident Anita Zucker, CEO of The InterTech Group Inc., as the “Woman of Courage” award recipient. The event promises to be a gathering of influential women, with Johnson and Zucker both being billionaires.

“Our kickoff speaker Sheila Johnson and our honoree Anita Zucker as well as our panelists exemplify championship in their own right,” says Joanna Lau, founder and CEO of executive consulting and investment company Lau Acquisitions, who is a member of the School of Business Board of Governors. “These women faced numerous obstacles and setbacks along their journey, but never allowed those challenges to define them. Instead, they harnessed their inner strength and used every setback as fuel to propel them forward. You will hear their personal journeys at this year’s Women for Women Summit.”

Johnson’s recent press coverage has been extensive, with features on CBS NewsNPR Morning Edition, and the Wall Street Journal. Her memoir has been praised for its candidness and inspiring message.

The Women for Women Summit is a must-attend event for anyone looking to be inspired by successful women who have overcome adversity. With Johnson and Zucker headlining the event, attendees are sure to leave feeling empowered and motivated to be champions in their own lives. Tickets are sold out but there is a wait list.
