Unveiling Laurens County’s First Storm Drain Art Mural: A Splash for Awareness

In perfect alignment with Storm Water Awareness Week, Keep Laurens County Beautiful (KLCB) marked the occasion for Laurens County as the first storm drain art mural was unveiled in the heart of the Town of Gray Court. This innovative project was envisioned to spotlight the vital importance of maintaining clear storm drains, emphasizing the critical role they play in preserving our local water bodies.

The primary objective of the initiative is to augment public understanding about the significance of preventing litter and pollution from entering storm drains. Anything that finds its way into these drains ultimately funnels directly into the closest river, lake, or stream, serving as a concerning threat to our precious drinking water. This includes a wide array of pollutants such as automotive fluids, yard chemicals, pet waste, and more.

The Laurens County Water & Sewer Commission proudly sponsored the creation of this mural. The mural not only serves as a work of art but as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.

The mural, beautifully adorning a storm drain vividly portrays the connection between our actions and the consequences they have on our natural surroundings. The artwork is designed to be visually striking and informative, encouraging conscious and responsible behavior in waste disposal and pollution prevention.
