City of Columbia announces donations given to Sistercare in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the City of Columbia Public Relations, Media and Marketing Department hosted various fundraisers in support of Sistercare. The fundraisers included the Sistercare Toiletry Drive and two Sistercare Saturday Dunk Tank events.
The results of the fundraising efforts were announced at the October 17, 2023 City Council meeting, community members donated 3,539 toiletry items to be given to Sistercare. In support of the toiletry drive, sixteen local businesses and city departments partnered with the City’s Public Relations Department and allowed donation boxes to be on display at the various locations.

“We are so excited that all of the items collected during the toiletry drive are going to such a great cause. The City of Columbia thanks Sistercare for their partnership over the years. Sistercare is to be commended for their service to domestic violence victims and their families,” said Mayor Daniel Rickenmann.
Over the course of the two Sistercare Saturday events, where local celebrities such as Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, City of Columbia Police Chief William “Skip” Holbrook, and other local celebrities participated in a Dunk Tank fundraiser. During these events, the City raised $1,510 to donate to Sistercare.
“We are grateful for our longtime partnership with the City of Columbia. Mayor Rickenmann, City Council members, and the City of Columbia staff have been loyal Sistercare supporters and dedicated to providing resources and hosting awareness events to help us best serve domestic violence survivors and their children. We serve nearly 4,000 individuals each year, these toiletry items are greatly needed and will provide survivors and children with the basic items we often take for granted. We extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Rickenmann, City Council members, and the City of Columbia staff,” said Leah Wicevic, Executive Director for Sistercare
