Laurens Police Officers Bond with Students at Laurens Elementary

October 24, 2023

Corporal Miguel Catalin and Officer Dania Manasra from the Laurens Police Department paid an unexpected visit to Lauren’s Elementary for a security check. But what started as routine soon turned into a heartwarming display of community policing.

While patrolling the school grounds, the officers came across children having recess. Rather than just checking security, they decided to join in the fun. They played games like tag, red light, green light, and duck, duck, goose, much to the delight of the kids.

“The children were very welcoming to Corporal Catalin and Officer Manasra, requesting photos and giving them hugs. This spontaneous interaction left a positive impression on the students, fostering a friendly view of law enforcement,” said Laurens Police Chief Keith Grounsell.

Teachers at the school extended recess to allow more playtime, underlining their commitment to strengthening the bond between the community and the police force.

As the recess period came to a close, Cpl. Catalin and Ofc. Manasra promised to return soon.

This surprise visit is a prime example of community-oriented policing, illustrating how building connections benefits everyone involved. Well done.
