All South Carolinians are needed to complete the South Carolina Community Perception Survey on Disability
December 11, 2023According to the SC Statewide Independent Living Council 2022-23 Needs Assessment Survey, people with disabilities believe their number one barrier to inclusive access is the way others view disability. People with disabilities believe that many non-disabled people either don’t understand disability or don’t accept disability, leading to discrimination.
Able South Carolina is seeking to expose the data related to this barrier people with disabilities are experiencing via the South Carolina Community Perception Survey on Disability. The survey is open to everyone, especially non-disabled people with ties to the South Carolina community. The survey has an estimated completion time of five minutes and all responses remain completely anonymous.
While disabled people are encouraged to participate in the survey, non-disabled individuals as well as those with very little disability education and knowledge are the primary target of the questions, “We anticipate that many people completing this survey will have very personal ties and feelings related to disability that they may not have explored before. We need to capture this information if we are to effectively continue to improve the lives of disabled individuals,” shared Able South Carolina’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mary Alex Kopp.
Those who complete the survey are encouraged to share the survey with family, friends, and members of their own communities by sharing the survey link on social media platforms, texting, emailing, or any other means of communication that could help spread the word about the effort.
The organization plans to use the data collected to better inform their services, as well as organizational partners, and the championing of issues related to disability advocacy. The survey can be found online at www.able-sc.org/survey. The survey will remain open until January 1st, 2024 at midnight.
