School District Five digital integration specialist honored by SC Farm Bureau
December 11, 2023A Lexington-Richland School District Five digital integration specialist has been selected to receive the 2023 Betty J. DeWitt Outstanding Educator Award from SC Farm Bureau.
Heather Reitenga received the award for integrating exemplary agricultural education programs into school curriculum.
“Being recognized by the South Carolina Farm Bureau for Agriculture in the Classroom is very meaningful to me,” Reitenga said. “I am grateful to be able to provide hands-on learning experiences for our elementary students to have a deeper understanding of the importance of agriculture, sustainability, and nutrition. The Ag in the Classroom program makes it easy to connect gardening and agriculture practices to STEAM learning!”
The Betty J. DeWitt Outstanding Educator Award was created to honor past State Women’s Leadership Committee Chair Betty J. DeWitt’s commitment to agricultural literacy, and to recognize a K-12 teacher who integrates exemplary agricultural education in his or her daily classroom lessons.
Reitenga received her award at the SC Farm Bureau Annual Convention’s Award and Recognition Program on December 1 in Myrtle Beach.
