The screening of Nimona by ND Stevenson

Last night, we attended a showing of the movie, Nimona, at a packed Nickelodeon theatre on Main Street. Nimona is a 2023 American animated science fantasy, comedy, drama film based on the 2015 graphic novel of the same name by Columbia, SC’s own, ND Stevenson. We thank Hal and Diana Stevenson, ND’s parents, for inviting us.

Set in a sci-fantasy world influenced by the Middle Ages, the film features the voices of Chloë Grace Moretz as Nimona and Riz Ahmed as former knight Ballister. Nimona had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 14, 2023, was released in select cinemas on June 23, 2023. It is currently available on  Netflix.

The movie has a 95% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes where one reviews states; “Nimona taps a rich emotional vein with its splendid animation and thoughtful allegory.”

We concur. It’s an incredible, wildly creative story with world-class animation and important themes.
