South Carolina Virtual Charter School hosts successful Scripps Spelling Bee program

South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS), a tuition-free public virtual charter school in South Carolina, successfully hosted a Scripps Spelling Bee program event on Friday, January 5 at SCVCS’s flagship location. This competition marked the school’s inaugural participation in the Scripps program, with 24 SCVCS competitors from across the state. The winner from this year’s event was eighth grade student, Alayna Lanier.
Lanier will now advance to regionals in March with the opportunity to compete nationally in Washington, D.C. in May. The spelling bee exemplifies SCVCS’s commitment to fostering academic excellence by providing in-person events for students.
“We enjoyed hosting our first-ever Scripps Spelling Bee program and celebrating our students’ success,” said Dr. Cherry Daniel, Head of School at SCVCS. “This event shows SCVCS’s commitment to strong community bonds with in-person events while also fostering academic excellence among all students.”
