Spreading Love to Seniors: Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Continues Annual Valentine’s Care Bags Drive
January 14, 2024As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is gearing up for its annual initiative to make the day special for local seniors enrolled in the Project SOS (Senior Outreach Services) program. With over 35 seniors age 65 and above in the program, LCSO is calling on the community to join hands in creating Valentine’s Care Bags to bring joy to the elderly.
Project SOS is a Senior Outreach Service offered by LCSO, providing free check-in visits and phone calls to seniors in Laurens County. The primary objective of Project SOS is to build meaningful relationships with local seniors, fostering connections and establishing a plan of action for any potential needs that may arise.
Laurens County Sheriff, Don Reynolds, expressed the significance of this initiative, saying, “Every little gesture counts, and we always look forward to seeing their smiles. Valentine’s Day is a perfect opportunity to show our seniors that they are cherished and not forgotten.”
The Valentine’s Care Bags drive is open for donations until February 9, 2024. Donations can be dropped off at the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours, and for added convenience, arrangements can be made for pick-up.
Suggested items for the care bags include sugar-free candy, tissues, hand cream, chapstick, large print crossword and word search puzzles, pocket calendars, pens, notepads, and jigsaw puzzles. These thoughtful items are chosen to bring comfort, entertainment, and a sense of connection to the seniors.
Deputy Snow, who is overseeing the donation drive, encourages community members to participate and make a difference. She mentioned, “If you know of any seniors who could use a care bag delivered straight to their doorstep or if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 864-681-4509.”
This initiative not only aims to provide tangible items but also serves as a reminder to the seniors that they are valued members of the community. By coming together and contributing to the Valentine’s Care Bags, residents of Laurens County have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the elderly, spreading love and warmth during the season of love.
