The South Carolina School Boards Association Celebrates Mr. Anthony Carpenter 

Mr. Anthony Carpenter, a board member for Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55), has been recognized by the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) for twenty-five years of school board service. Carpenter was presented with a commemorative pin and certificate from SCSBA at the LCSD 55 School Board Meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024. Mr. Carpenter’s name and years of service will be published in the SCSBA 2024 Annual Convention souvenir program. He will also receive a plaque from SCSBA at the convention.

Mr. Carpenter is a SCSBA Level 6 Member, the highest level of achievement for a board member who participates in the SCSBA Boardmanship Institute. For a board member to achieve this status, a board member must have been on the board for at least five consecutive years, passed an online test, and accumulated at least 300 points earned from attending conferences and various training sessions that enhance their knowledge and skills as board members.

Veteran school board members provide vision and valuable leadership for school districts. SCSBA and the local boards are happy to honor these board members for their long-term dedication to improving student achievement in their communities. 

As of this year, in South Carolina, about 43 percent of the state’s approximately 633 school district and affiliate board members have served four years or less, and about 32 percent have 10 years or more of board service.
