Greenville Technical College students named to PTK All-State Academic Team
April 11, 2024Three students from Greenville Technical College (GTC) have been named to South Carolina’s 2024 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-State Academic Team. Genesis Leal, Molly Turner, and Asia Willett were honored in a ceremony held April 11 to announce the 50 students selected from the state’s sixteen technical colleges.
Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two-year college, attracts outstanding students from technical, junior, and community colleges nationwide. South Carolina’s team members have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement with GPAs of 3.5 or higher and an impressive record of service to their colleges.
Originally from Venezuela, Genesis Leal has lived in the U.S. for about five years. She will graduate in May 2024 with as Associate in Science and plans to attend Clemson University in the fall, majoring in physics. Currently working full-time at Magna Seating as a lab technician, she performs seat testing, applying physics knowledge. Her eventual goal is to earn a Ph.D. in physics along with a math degree.
Molly Turner graduated last December with Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees. In the Fall of 2024, she plans to transfer to North Greenville University to pursue a Bachelor of Health Science degree. After this, she plans to complete a graduate program in the world of health science.
Asia Willett, a Paralegal student, will graduate in December 2024. She plans to take the NALA Paralegal Certification Exam upon graduation and utilize the knowledge and skills she’s obtained at GTC in both her daily and professional life.
“Our Phi Theta Kappa chapter draws the best of the best among students who are dedicated to excellence in their college education,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “These honorees show that with the state’s technical college system, any goal can be reached.”
