Bon Secours’ 2nd Mobile Mammography Unit hits the road
May 1, 2024Bon Secours St. Francis is proud to announce its second mobile mammography coach will hit the road in the Upstate today, further expanding access to this crucial care.
Just as with the health system’s original mammography coach, which launch in 2012, this unit will operate on the road five to six days a week, offering the latest 3D tomosynthesis technology for patients in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee Counties.
“This will allow us to travel further and to more destinations to spread awareness that early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer – a fight that 1 in 8 women will face in their lifetime,” said Amanda Yanchus, Lead Mammography Technologist at the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health. “Making screenings more accessible has proven to increase mammography
utilizations rates with the result being more lives saved. Our mission is to make these services as accessible as possible and we will do just that when we place our second mobile on the road!”
Mammograms play a vital role in early detection as well as diagnosing breast-related concerns. The Bon Secours mobile mammography coaches provide the same cutting-edge imaging technology as the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health, but it’s delivered straight to the communities that need it most.
“Bringing the mobile coach to places outside Greenville makes such a difference for the ladies living and working in these communities. Many of them work long days and would not take the time off work to go have their screening done if we did not bring these services right to their door,” explained Alicia Landreth, mammography technologist and mobile mammography
coordinator at Bon Secours. “It also provides a non-hospital environment that makes many ladies feel more comfortable coming in to do their test.”
Screenings on the mobile mammography coach only take about 15 minutes on average and are usually a covered benefit with most insurance carriers. You also don’t need a formal doctor’s order to schedule your mammogram. So, whether you’re over 40 and due for your annual screening or you’re between the ages of 35 and 40 and just need to establish a baseline
mammogram, don’t wait to make your appointment. Call 864-675-4875 to schedule your 2D or 3D mammogram today! You can also see the full mobile mammography schedule online at bonsecours.com.
