All Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals earn top ratings for third straight time
May 1, 2024Four Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals earn A’s for patient safety
Every hospital at Roper St. Francis Healthcare earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for patient safety in The Leapfrog Group ratings released today.
For Leapfrog’s third straight grading period, Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital, Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital received the highest marks possible for protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.
“Roper St. Francis Healthcare values a culture of teammate and patient safety, and we always strive to hold ourselves accountable to the highest external validation of that culture of patient safety,” said Dr. Megan Baker, interim president and CEO of Roper St. Francis Healthcare. “Leapfrog is just that.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.
“When I think of Leapfrog, it’s not enough to just keep repeating, but we have to keep excelling,” Dr. Baker said. “The competition gets harder. The requirements become more stringent. But if we really want to be that championship healthcare provider, then we’re going to continue to participate and strive for straight A’s every time.”
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

About The Leapfrog Group
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Survey collect and transparently report hospital and ASC performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions.
