Illustrator of Dick and Jane Readers to be Discussed by His Daughter at the Laurens County Museum on May 18

May 12, 2024
The model for the character Sally in the Dick and Jane readers, Nancy Childress, will be at the Laurens County Museum to talk about her father, Robert Childress, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, for a Lunch and Learn at Noon.  New Hampshire resident, author and attorney, Nancy Childress has many stories to tell about her talented father and the Childress lineage in Laurens County.  The lecture is open to the public and is free for museum members and those 18 years old and under.  Others may support the Museum with a recommended donation of $5.  The museum is located at 116 South Public Square, Laurens, SC.
Before illustrating the Dick and Jane books, Robert Childress graduated from Clemson College in 1936 in architecture.  Clients for his paintings and advertisements were Duncan Hines, Campbell Soup, and Coca-Cola among many others.  His portraits and paintings are displayed in art museums, universities, books and periodicals.  The Norman Rockwell Museum acquired a permanent collection of his art in 2014.
Bring your lunch and learn on May 18!  The Laurens County Museum exhibit hall is free to the public.  Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Laurens County Museum memberships are available at the museum and online.  For more information about this lecture and others, call (864) 681-3678, or visit LaurensCountyMuseum.org or Facebook.
