Buist teacher honored by the SC Bar

June 17, 2024

Buist Academy’s seventh grade English teacher, Christopher Garner, was recently honored by the South Carolina (SC) Bar; he was named their 2024 Law Related Education (LRE) Middle School Teacher of the Year. Garner’s work with the school’s Mock Trial team led to this honor.

A representative from the SC Bar presented Garner with $500 and a plaque during a ceremony at the school on May 31, 2024.

Garner has coached the Buist Academy Mock Trial team for twelve years. He encourages students to think on their feet and has high expectations for student members.

“The South Carolina Bar does great work with their Middle School Mock Trial program,” said Garner. “I am proud of all the accomplishments of our Buist Mock Trial teams over the past 12 years.”

The LRE Teacher of the Year Awards (established in 2005) are presented to teachers who have fostered public understanding of the values of the legal and judicial systems, stimulated a deeper sense of individual responsibility in students; encouraged and supported LRE programs, and increased communication among students, fellow educators and those working in the legal system.
