SCbio welcomes Chelsey Lee as Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lead, a new role that will build resources and opportunities for life sciences startups in South Carolina.

Lee will oversee the operations and growth of SCbioDrive, a semiannual life sciences accelerator program designed to advance emerging platforms and technologies through expert business curricula, industry guidance and mentorship – all at no cost. She will also cultivate and maintain relationships with industry partners, investors, academic institutions and government agencies to enhance the support ecosystem for startups.

“We want to show entrepreneurs that South Carolina is the state where businesses, at their earliest stages, are set up for success and sustained growth,” said SCbio President and CEO James Chappell. “Because of Chelsey’s education, industry experience and previous success within our organization, I am confident she will deliver the resources emerging companies need and expand the growth and impact of SCbioDrive.”

Before her current role, Lee joined the SCbio team as a marketing intern, conducting industry-related research to create compelling student-focused content for digital marketing communications. She gained extensive life sciences industry knowledge through internships with KLS Martin, Arthrex and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

While achieving her master’s, Lee conducted medical device commercialization research for JTEKT, a manufacturing company based in Japan, and cell degeneration research for the Medical University of South Carolina.

Lee received her Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering and her Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering from Clemson University.
