A Gathering of Quilters Day at the Laurens County Museum on August 17
July 31, 2024Quilting enthusiasts are invited to join the Laurens County Museum for a day filled with fun, food, and camaraderie at the “Gathering of Quilters Day” on Saturday, August 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This exciting event will take place at the museum located at 116 South Public Square, Laurens, SC.
Pre-registration by August 10 and a fee of $10 are required to participate in the festivities. However, visitors can tour the museum and explore the “Historic Quilts of Laurens County” exhibit for free. A highlight of the exhibit will be the quilt made by future president Andrew Johnson and his sweetheart, Sarah Word, on display for this special day courtesy of the SC State Museum.
The day’s schedule is packed with engaging activities. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a talk from Art Quilter Becky Erdman from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Attendees can look forward to games and door prizes, with lunch being served at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon will feature rotating stations showcasing miniature quilts, rope bowls, flange binding, and more starting at 12:15 p.m. The day will culminate in a Quilts of Valor Wrapping at 2:00 p.m., honoring service members and veterans with hand-crafted quilts.
