To begin the City Council meeting, Mayor Daniel J. Rickenmann, City Council and Executive City Staff wanted to ensure our communities of the ongoing efforts from the City of Columbia to mitigate and respond to potential impacts from Tropical Storm Debby. During the consent agenda portion of the meeting, City Council approved several items to enhance our City of Columbia Parks. The upgrades included $101,192.00 for the continued revitalization of Owens Field Athletic Park (Item #11), as well as $238,878.40 for playground equipment and splash pad for Melrose Park (Item #12).

Additionally, several items were approved during the consent agenda and regular agenda to provide investment in Columbia Water infrastructure to serve the needs of our citizens and communities, including investments in our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (Item #20), drinking water/waste water infrastructure (Items #16-19 and #30-32) and Columbia Canal embankment repair services contracts (Item #19).

During the resolution portion of the meeting, City Council approved a resolution to adopt a City of Columbia Public Art Placement Policy and Public Art Placement Application (Item #39). This policy and application will ensure a process for requesting, approving and installation of public art at properties owned by the City of Columbia. This policy would apply to any individual or organization considering placement of public art to include but not limited to, statues, monuments and memorials within a City-owned facility or right-of-way.
