Attorney General Alan Wilson Co-Leads Brief Supporting North Carolina Laws Restricting Abortion Drug

August 20, 2024

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson co-led a brief filed Monday in support of North Carolina laws that regulate the prescribing and dispensing of abortion-inducing drugs, such as mifepristone. A coalition of 18 states filed the brief with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in a lawsuit brought by a doctor against the State of North Carolina and its laws.

“I have always been proudly pro-life,” Attorney General Wilson said. “But this case is also about upholding the law and state sovereignty. The U.S. Supreme Court recognized that states have the authority to regulate abortion when they overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, and these are common-sense regulations on abortion that North Carolina passed.”

The states are asking the Court of Appeals to vacate the District Court’s injunction that’s blocking the enforcement of North Carolina’s laws.
