Five Points association officially unveils newest art installation, “Fritz”

October 9, 2024

The Five Points District, known for its eclectic art scene and vibrant community, announced the official naming of its newest public art installation, “Fritz”. The 1,200-pound robot head, created by local artist, Clark Ellefson, is anchored at the north end of Saluda Avenue, near the main fountain plaza. The Five Points Association officially unveiled the project and announced the name at this past Sunday’s JerryFest event.

The name “Fritz” was selected after a community-driven process, in which community members submitted name ideas they felt embodied the spirit of Five Points and the artwork itself. Names were then narrowed down by a selection committee and voted on by the public.

“It’s great to have one of Clark’s pieces here in Five Points after many years of working with him,” said Richard Burts. “The piece is representative of the unique and whimsical vibe of the Five Points District. We are excited for people to come out and see Fritz, peer his into his brain from the view portal, take photos, and explore Five Points while they are here.”
