Team South Carolina County Day to be Held in Clinton to Assist Laurens County Residents Impacted by Hurricane Helene

October 10, 2024

Residents of Laurens County will have the opportunity to access disaster relief resources and support services at the upcoming Team South Carolina County Day in Clinton. The event, which will take place on Tuesday, October 15, at Piedmont Technical College’s Laurens County Higher Education Center, is part of a statewide initiative to assist those affected by Hurricane Helene. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will serve residents from Laurens, Union, and Newberry counties.

Team South Carolina County Days are designed as one-stop events where local residents can meet with representatives from various state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations, to learn about available recovery resources. The initiative, announced by Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela S. Evette, aims to streamline assistance for those impacted by the storm.

During the Clinton event, representatives from several key agencies will be on hand to offer guidance on services such as:

  • S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce: Assistance with unemployment benefits, including Disaster Unemployment Assistance.
  • S.C. Department of Health and Human Services: Information on healthcare services and Medicaid.
  • FEMA: Guidance on registering for financial assistance related to hurricane damage.
  • S.C. Department of Agriculture: Impact data collection in preparation for the establishment of Farm Recovery Centers.
  • S.C. Department of Social Services: Support with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and household loss claims.
  • S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles: Help with documentation for residents impacted by the storm.
  • S.C. Housing Authority: Information on rental properties and home repair resources.

In addition to these state services, the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide assistance with applying for disaster loans, while the United Way Association of South Carolina and other local nonprofits will offer information on community volunteer opportunities and disaster relief efforts.

Lieutenant Governor Pamela S. Evette, who will be attending the Clinton event, emphasized the importance of making recovery resources easily accessible to affected South Carolinians. “Team South Carolina County Days provide an essential lifeline for residents impacted by Hurricane Helene, offering a one-stop location to find the help they need to rebuild,” she said.

The event is free and open to the public, and no pre-registration is required. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available at the Laurens County Higher Education Center to assist in their recovery process.
